Reality is not bad. Reality is a way to measure how you are materializing your dreams.

About three years ago, I decided I wanted to change because I felt miserable. I wasn't exactly sure what that meant or how it was going to happen. I only knew I needed to grow.

>>What did it mean?

The What became defined while I was sitting in my small room filled with post-it notes all over the walls.

On those walls, I found the quote I wanted to use to lead my life:

"Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new" - Brian Tracy

I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone, because I valued growth, curiosity, and innovation. That was my What.

My desire to grow meant I needed to step outside of my comfort zone.

As I sat there feeling like I hit the jackpot, I realized I did not know How this idea or dream would translate into actions or results.

>>How was I going to achieve that?

It seemed like a ridiculous dream at first and possibly infantile (I had a couple of laughs from some people).

This is where my journey - the journey of figuring out How - changed and continues to change my mindset in ways I never imagined possible.

At first, my actions where all over the place and never in writing. I started a blog, created a YouTube channel, took up presenter roles to practice public speaking, and so on and so on.

It was a good start, but there where flaws - I got tired of coming up with random ideas (that I never wrote down!), I lost track of the goal, I didn't have a support system. It was just a dream.

>>A more refined How

However, all that confusion changed when I started to learn about management and behavioral science (of all things!) and got the opportunity to engage in coaching.

As I learned about how companies use goal setting and measurable outcomes to move their product forward and grow, I realized the importance of the How in our own lives.

How = Goal setting + measurable outcomes

Companies are not the only entities that require a vision and measurable indicators to achieve their goals. We do, too! And in writing, too!

By imagining ourselves to be small companies striving to achieve our own goals, then we can schedule our own 'quarterly meetings' to set up our own agenda and measure what's really valuable.

This is where coaching became a tremendous help.

As I mentioned in a previous post, coaching is a way to have an accountability partner that helps you stay focus on your outcomes and gives you the space to create self-awareness.

Coaching gave me the tools to learn about myself to translate my visions into measurable outcomes.

So, as I gained further knowledge and experience on why stepping outside of of my comfort zone was so important to me, I was able to use those tools to turn my dreams and visions into reality by giving greater focus to the How.

And I continue to do so, still.

>>Going forward with a stronger How

Everyday, I seek inspiration that drives me to understand why stepping outside of my comfort zone is so important to me. My dream.

Everyday, I also set up goals and measurable outcomes (that are written in a document!) to help me materialize that dream. My reality.

Two months ago, I had a dream to set up a professional website. Today, this blog is now a part of my reality. And that makes me really happy.

How about you? How do you deal with dreams and reality? I would love to hear from you. Don't hesitate to reach out and connect!

[P.S. I am planning on writing a post on this wonderful book I am reading related to creating measurable outcomes. Stay tune for that!]

Trust the process. Live the commitment
