Reflections on the power and beauty of love

After rewatching Batman: The Dark Knight, it reminded me of all the amazing famous quotes that I had forgotten (seriously!). It also reminded me, thought, of the Lego Batman movie and its powerful message on love.

So, I thought I would share with you some incredible quotes I found (because, you know, once you start searching for Batman quotes, you end up on another place in google) on the power and beauty of love.

Love is the voice under all silences, the hope which has no opposite in fear; the strength so strong mere force is feebleness: the truth more first than sun, more last than star.” E.E. Cummings

Whether you are a cute, little kid playing with your toys or an intimidating body-builder pumping up your muscles, I think all of us - big, small, young, and old - seek the same thing in life: To be loved and to love others, because it fills our souls.

Is it always easy to love? No. Is it always easy to express it? No.

But the more we seek to understand it, the more we seek to be vulnerable and to be comfortable expressing it, the fuller our hearts become.

Or as Ed Sheeran wrote in his song, Photograph,

"Loving can heal, loving can mend your soul And it's the only thing that I know, know I swear it will get easier Remember that with every piece of you Hm, and it's the only thing we take with us when we die"

I want to share a few reflections on the power and beauty of love:

"We don't fall in love with people because they're good people. We fall in love with people whose darkness we recognize. You can fall in love with a person for all of the right reasons, but that kind of love can still fall apart. But when you fall in love with a person because your monsters have found a home in them ― that's the kind of love that owns your skin and bones. Love, I am convinced, is found in the darkness. It is the candle in the night."C. Joybell C.

  • Reflection: What monsters have you seen in those you love? What about that person made you want to be the candle in the night?

"You know quite well, deep within you, that there is only a single magic, a single power, a single salvation... and that is called loving. Well then, love your suffering. Do not resist it, do not flee from it. It is only your aversion to it that hurts, nothing else." Hermann Hesse

  • Reflection: Why does loving sometimes require that we suffer? What do we gain from it?

"My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return." Maya Angelou

  • Reflection: How come we need to find courage to accept love in return? Are we afraid of giving up control?

"Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself."Antoine de Saint-Exupery

  • Reflection: If love leads you back to yourself, what does that tell you about the God that created you?

"Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin, as self-neglecting."William Shakespeare, Henry V.

  • Reflection: Why is self-love so important? How does it tie back to Antoine de Saint-Exupery's quote from above?

"For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation."Rainer Maria Rilke

  • Reflection: What is preparing us for this task of loving? How come this is the most difficult of all tasks we will ever make?

What are your thoughts on the reflections? I would love to hear from you. Let's connect!

Trust the process, live the commitment
